What to Pack for a Self-Drive Road Trip in Cebu
3 min read·By DriveLink Team
Packing for a self-drive road trip is easier than you'd think — a car's trunk and air conditioning take care of most of what would otherwise be a concern on two wheels. Here's the exact checklist we give to every DriveLink customer planning a multi-day tour.
What DriveLink Provides (Don't Pack These)
- ✓Vehicle registration (OR/CR) in the glovebox
- ✓Full tank of fuel on pickup
- ✓Basic insurance and 24/7 WhatsApp support
- ✓Free helmet and phone holder — for the scooter, if that's what you booked
Documents & Money
- Driver's licenseAnd IDP if needed — see our legal guide
- Passport copyLeave the original at your hotel safe. Carry a clear photocopy.
- Cash (PHP)Rural Cebu is still mostly cash. Carry ₱1,500–2,000/day for fuel, food, and entry fees.
- GCash/MayaSet these up before you go — they're accepted almost everywhere in cities now
Comfort Essentials
- Water bottlesFill up whenever you see a 7-Eleven. A cooler in the trunk keeps drinks cold on long drives.
- SnacksBananas, biscuits, and nuts for energy on long stretches. Cebu has lots of roadside carinderias for proper meals.
- Offline mapsDownload your route on Maps.me before you leave — works without internet in the mountains.
- Phone charger / car adapterNavigation runs your battery down over a full day of driving. A USB car charger solves it.
- SunglassesCebu sun is intense even through a windshield, especially on coastal roads facing west in the afternoon.
If rain catches you on the highway: just keep driving with headlights and wipers on. Philippine afternoon rains are intense but usually pass within 20–40 minutes — pull into a petrol station if visibility gets bad.
For Multi-Day Trips
If you're keeping the car for several days, add these to your kit:
- Small cooler bagFor drinks and snacks on longer stretches — fits easily in the trunk alongside luggage.
- Basic first aidBandages, antiseptic wipes, and ibuprofen. Small kit, big peace of mind.
- DriveLink WhatsApp savedSave +63 910 260 2945 — we're available 24/7 for any issues on the road.
- Reusable shopping bagHandy for market runs (Carcar lechon, Mantalongon strawberries) without leaving loose items rolling around the trunk.
Don't overpay for "travel kits" sold near Mactan Airport aimed at scooter tourists — as a car renter you need none of that. Everything on this list is available at SM Supermarket or Lazada for normal prices.
